The Approach
Emotionally Focused Therapy
Most of us learned early on that vulnerability was risky. We built strategies to stay safe: staying in control, staying busy, staying strong. Those strategies worked. Until they didn't.
Emotionally Focused Therapy is one of the most rigorously researched approaches to relationship and individual work. It's grounded in attachment science: the understanding that we are wired for connection, and that our emotional responses in relationships make sense when we understand the deeper needs driving them. This is the foundation of both couples therapy and individual therapy at Gatewood. Learn more about how EFT works.
This is not advice-giving or surface-level problem solving. It's careful, present work that helps you understand what's actually happening beneath the patterns that keep showing up in your life.
Most therapists specialize in one of these: working with high-functioning analytical minds, certified EFT couples work, or the specific attachment terrain of gay men. I work at all three intersections, and that's intentional.
