For Professionals
You've optimized everything except the part that keeps you up at night.
Therapy for executives, founders, and tech professionals in San Francisco and the Bay Area ready to bring the same intentionality to their emotional lives as they bring to their work.
You're used to operating at a high level. Strategy, execution, performance under pressure: these are native to you. But somewhere along the way, you noticed that your competence hasn't translated to your relationships. Or maybe it has, in ways that aren't working: managing your partner, solving instead of feeling, staying controlled when what's actually needed is something much more vulnerable.
Most high-performing people don't lack emotional capacity. They've just learned to channel it into work, where it's rewarded, and away from relationships, where it feels riskier. Therapy at Gatewood is designed for people who are ready to stop outsmarting their emotional lives and start actually inhabiting them.
Why this work is different
I come from an analytical background. Engineering, mathematics, earth science. I understand how analytical minds work: the drive for frameworks, the preference for logic, the instinct to solve. I also understand the limitations of that orientation when it comes to emotional and relational life.
This practice exists because I saw how many brilliant, capable people were underserved by therapy that couldn't meet them at their level. Too much validation, not enough depth. Too much coping strategy, not enough understanding of what's actually driving the pattern.
If you've tried therapy before and found it frustratingly slow, overly gentle, or intellectually unsatisfying, this may be a different experience.
I serve clients in San Francisco, the Bay Area, and throughout California via telehealth, and in Montana, where I'm one of the few EFT-certified therapists licensed to practice. If you're a high-performing professional in Montana looking for this level of work, I'd welcome a conversation.
What clients in this space often bring
Emotional isolation in leadership
The loneliness of carrying responsibility without being able to show what it costs you.
Relationships suffering under success
Partners who feel shut out, marriages running on logistics, intimacy replaced by efficiency.
Identity fused with performance
Difficulty knowing who you are apart from what you achieve. The fear that slowing down means falling behind.
Burnout that isn't about hours
A deeper depletion that has less to do with workload and more to do with emotional disconnection.
For professionals who prefer to begin individually before moving into relationship work, see individual therapy. For those whose relationships are the primary concern, couples therapy may be the right starting point. If you are based in San Francisco or the Bay Area, there is more context on how this practice serves clients in that geography.
Common questions
Do you offer therapy for executives in San Francisco?
Yes. Therapy for executives, founders, and high-performing professionals is a core focus of Gatewood Therapy. I serve clients in San Francisco, the Bay Area, and throughout California via telehealth. I bring both clinical depth and an analytical background, engineering, mathematics, earth science, to this work, which means I understand how high-achieving minds operate and where that orientation runs into its limits.
What issues do high-performing professionals typically bring to therapy?
The professionals I work with most often bring emotional isolation in leadership, relationships suffering under the demands of success, difficulty knowing who they are outside of their work, and a kind of burnout that isn't about hours. It's about emotional disconnection. Many have tried therapy before and found it too slow, too gentle, or intellectually unsatisfying. This practice is designed to be a different experience.
What therapy approach do you use with professionals?
I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), one of the most rigorously researched approaches in psychotherapy. EFT works at the level of emotion and attachment rather than surface behavior or coping skills, which is why it tends to reach things that insight-based or cognitive approaches alone have not. For high-functioning people who already understand their patterns intellectually, EFT offers a different kind of entry point: not more analysis, but a different experience of the pattern itself.
Do you work with couples where one or both partners are high-achieving professionals?
Yes. Many of the couples I work with include one or both partners in demanding professional roles: tech, finance, law, medicine, creative leadership. The particular strains of high-achieving partnerships, emotional distance, logistics replacing intimacy, one partner feeling shut out, are territory I know well. EFT couples therapy is especially well-suited to this dynamic.
