Montana

Depth-oriented therapy, wherever you are in Montana.

Telehealth therapy for individuals and couples across Montana from one of the state's few certified Emotionally Focused Therapists.

Montana is not a place that asks much of you emotionally. The culture rewards self-sufficiency, endurance, and a certain quiet competence in the face of difficulty. Those are real strengths. They also make it harder to find the kind of support that goes beneath the surface, the kind of work that takes emotional life seriously as something worth attending to with the same rigor you bring to everything else.

If you are a professional in Montana who has built something, or is building something, and you have noticed that your inner life or your closest relationships are not keeping pace with the rest of what you have created, you are not alone in that experience. And you do not have to leave the state to address it.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in Montana and a certified Emotionally Focused Therapist, one of very few in the state. I work via telehealth, which means geography is not a barrier. Whether you are in Billings, Missoula, Bozeman, Helena, Kalispell, or anywhere in between, we can do this work together.

What brings Montana clients to this work

Many of the Montana professionals I work with share a common thread: they have learned, often very early, that strength means not needing. That self-reliance is not just a practical stance but a moral one. That asking for help, especially with something as interior as emotional life, carries a particular kind of weight.

What I notice is that this orientation, which genuinely works in many contexts, tends to create real difficulty in relationships. A partner who feels they cannot reach you. A creeping sense of isolation that does not match the fullness of your life on paper. A recurring argument that never quite resolves, no matter how reasonable both people are trying to be.

This is not a personal failing. It is a pattern that makes complete sense given how most of us learned to manage hard things. And it can change.

About telehealth in Montana

All sessions are conducted via secure video, which makes it possible to do serious, depth-oriented work without the added friction of distance or travel. For clients in rural areas of Montana, or those with demanding schedules, telehealth removes one more barrier between you and work that matters.

Gatewood Therapy is a private-pay practice. This means no insurance requirements, no diagnosis-driven session limits, and work shaped entirely by what you need.

If you are in Montana and looking for a therapist who will take your emotional life as seriously as you take the rest of it, I would welcome a conversation.
